Marketing in 2019 will certainly be a lot different than previous years. How consumers are trenching through the internet is constantly changing, however at the moment social media owns it! Social media is a hungry beast that needs to be fed repeatedly and consistently as this is where everyone lives and is passionate about EVERYTHING.
As the Founder of Intuit so eloquently put it: “A brand is no longer what we tell a consumer it is – it is what consumers tell each other it is”
So there should be no surprise on whether a brand or manufacturer should be engaging consumers through their retailer’s social media outlets.
Recently, while doing some research, I looked over several commercial trucking companies’ Facebook pages. Sure, they had great content that showed their trucks hauling stuff, pulling trailers and driving through the snow. They also had something that really caught my attention, their pages included customers sharing their trucks and their personal stories. These stories are from the brand’s local dealers’ and retailers’ social media pages. This is vice versa content.
Flood the Feed with Vice Versa Content
It made me think, they are doing this for two reasons. First, they don’t always have enough content. Second, most brands (hopefully) know they need to feed the social media machine. At ThumbStopper®, we call that flooding the feed (#floodthefeed).
Sure, we preach that brands and manufacturers need to be connected to their retailer’s social media pages. But what about the reverse? What if a local retailer has a great piece of content that is worthy of a share?
Vice versa content is a great way to both flood the feed and allow local retailers to get some big brand love. Additionally, it opens channels of two-way communication between brands and retailers.
Planning for Marketing Success in 2019
As marketers, we love to map out a plan for the upcoming year. As we get more ingrained in our 2019 strategies, we should also be thinking about more ways to constantly get new content. Ideally, we post new content multiple times a day.
At ThumbStopper®, we will be practicing what we preach, and using vice versa content to flood our own feed. Our customers create viral content. We believe in helping brands succeed on social media, and will be sharing their content. We encourage you, your team and your brand to do the same. May 2019 be your biggest year yet. Remember, flood the feed!
